My story is very long and complicated but to keep it as simple as possible, for about two weeks I was in and out of doctor’s offices and the ER for a chronic severe sore throat. At first I thought it was strep or mono however it continued to get worse. New symptoms would pop up such as a swollen vein on my neck and a piercing chest pain in my lungs. Doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me. After being told again and again I just had a “strange virus”, on October 18th 2023 I went ... Read Full Story

In 2016, what began as a case of the flu and strep throat quickly turned life-threatening when the strep bacteria entered my bloodstream, triggering sepsis. I went into septic shock, and my organs began to fail. I spent a week in the hospital fighting for my life — a battle I’m incredibly grateful to have won. It has not only marked my past but also shaped my future. As Miss Route 66, ... Read Full Story

In September of 2023 I started having pain in my left knee, it progressed quickly to the point I couldn’t walk. I went to the ER 3 times crying in pain and they really didn’t do anything. To them I was obese and already had arthritis so why look further. The next night I couldn’t take the pain anymore. My sister brought me to the ER and yelled at them to do something. I don’t remember much until I woke up about 2 weeks later on a ventilator. My sister told me I had MRSA in the knee and I ... Read Full Story

Triple lobar pneumonia and septic shock aren’t a joke. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) On a cold winter day in December of 2012, I found my life quickly dwindling before my eyes. I had been sick for a while with a pesky cold that wasn’t going away, and was worsening over time, not realizing that it had turned into pneumonia. I had never been sick quite like this, but being a teenager, I hoped that it would somehow resolve itself with over the counter medicine as I had no context for what I was experiencing. I remained proactive as any kid trying ... Read Full Story

Shortly after Hurricane Beryl hit Houston, Tx in July 2024, our (23yo) son diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, a rare neuro-genetic disease, began to exhibit signs of illness. When someone you love is unable to communicate it’s one of the most difficult challenges you face as a caregiver. Initially we thought Brandon’s behavior changes were a sign of frustration due to the extended power outages in our area. Then came a sudden onset of 103 degree fever with increasing agitation. We immediately took him to the ER for assessment which revealed an ear infection and kidney stone. Shortly after arriving he ... Read Full Story
